Subway Access Overview From Martinique Hotel

Navigating the Subway from the Martinique Hotel

While visiting Manhattan, you’ll find that the Martinique Hotel is centrally located—making it an ideal starting point for getting around the city via subway.

When using the subway, here are a few key tips to keep in mind:

Train Types:

  •   Local trains stop at every station along the route.

  •   Express trains make fewer stops and will get you to your destination faster.

Direction of Travel:

  •  Trains are labeled either Uptown (heading north) or Downtown (heading south).

  •  From the Martinique Hotel, destinations like Times Square, Central Park, Grand Central Terminal, 5th  Avenue, Bryant Park, Harlem, and Rockefeller Center are considered Uptown.

  •  Locations such as Ground Zero, World Trade Center (WTC), Brooklyn, the Financial District,  Chinatown, Statue of Liberty, Wall Street, and SoHo are considered Downtown.

Fare Information:

  •  The standard fare is $2.90 each way.

  •  If you exit the subway system, you’ll need to pay again to re-enter.

  •  If you realize you’re heading in the wrong direction (Uptown vs. Downtown), do not exit the station.     Instead, stay inside the system and look for signs or visit an information booth to help you transfer to the correct platform without paying again.

Getting comfortable with these basics will make traveling through Manhattan easier and more efficient. Enjoy your time exploring the city!
